Timed entry instructions for Rocky Mountain National Park

The drive west from Longmont on US 36 is one of those quintessential Colorado trips. The faster route via US-36 delivers a direct journey through the dramatic North St. Vrain Canyon, making it the quickest route to the park. Alternatively, CO-7 winds past the eastern edge of the park, past the iconic Chapel on the Rock, and showcasing unparalleled views of Longs Peak and Mount Meeker just before Lily Lake. Both paths offer a vibrant transition from our bustling downtown to the serene mountain peaks.

Take a look at the two routes below to plan your mountain getaway.

Be on the lookout for elk, moose, bighorn sheep, mule deer, stellar jays, pikas, marmots and numerous other species as you stop and take photos or hike some of the 350 miles of trails that make this park a hiker’s paradise.
