Warrior Playground will host the Ultimate Ninja Athlete Association’s (UNAA) Mountain States Regional Qualifier Saturday, May 20 at their Longmont gym. The event will have around 100 competitors, with 10-20 of those being from NBC’s American Ninja Warrior television show.
The popularity of the TV show American Ninja Warrior has started a grassroots movement that is revolutionizing the fitness industry and creating a new sport – Ninja Obstacle Course (NOC). In 2016, the Warrior Playground in Longmont opened giving fans of the show and athletes the opportunity to hone their ninja skills. Featuring one of the fastest growing segments in the fitness industry, Warrior Playground had over 1,000 visitors in 2016 from over 30 states. NOC is a great form of exercise because it is fun, it can continuously progress to keep athletes challenged and athletes both young and old have taken to the sport.
The Ultimate Ninja Athlete Association is a corporation that promotes and organizes a nationwide series of NOC competitions. They have Area Qualifiers, Regional Qualifiers and an Ultimate Ninja Championship Final with large cash payouts. A Regional Qualifier competition was held at Warrior Playground last year shortly after the gym opened. With the gym and UNAA’s growth and popularity, this year’s Regional Qualifier promises to be bigger and better. Top contenders from each age/gender category at the Mountain States Regional Qualifier on May 20 will go on to compete at the Championship Finals in July held at Soar United in Dallas.
Colorado is a popular training site for American Ninja Warrior competitors. The NBC show has shot multiples episodes in the Denver area, and popular competitors like Isaac Caldiero, the First American Ninja Warrior Champion, and Ian Dory, Noah Kaufman, Meagan Martin and Brian Arnold, known as Colorado’s Wolfpack, are all from Colorado. Members of the Wolfpack continue to train locally and participate in nationwide tours and competitions.
The Warrior Playground is one of Colorado’s largest and most extensive obstacle course training facilities with a 10,000 square-foot, outdoor, obstacle course offering programs for kids and adults that makes fitness fun for all. Many of the obstacle course features are based on the American Ninja Warrior TV show – they have a Warped Wall, Jumping Spider, Salmon Ladder and many more obstacles where you can test your talent and train to be a warrior.
