Boulder County Farmers Markets, which runs growers-only markets featuring locally grown produce, locally produced food products, and local artisans, is open for the 2017 season at Longmont’s Boulder County Fairgrounds. The market will be held Saturdays from 8 a.m.-1 p.m.

Serving up Proud Mama’s German Burger along with variations of the original recipe including one rueben-style with corned beef, cabbage and Swiss cheese wrapped in the same delicious home made bread dough and served with Thousand Island dressing as a dipping sauce.

Kelly and Don’s goal is to provide diners a new eating experience based on the rich cultural heritage of the German experience in northern Colorado.

Join us for one, two, or all three days of this Cheesemaking Bootcamp and receive your Bronze, Silver or Gold Level Certification! You’ll get hands-on experience learning about the tools and techniques used to make a wide variety of beginning, intermediate and advanced level cheeses. Registration is required at www.theartofcheese.com. Each day we’ll make several different styles of cheese while sampling them along the way, and you’ll take home numerous cheesy creations of your own. You’ll leave knowing the terminology and basic techniques needed to branch off and try other recipes as well. Lunch with wine, coffee and dessert (and lots of cheese!) will be served each day, and we have a few extra activities planned each day as well.
Day One (Oct. 27): Beginner Cheeses
Soft Cheeses: Chèvre, Fromage Blanc, Mascarpone & Cottage Cheese
Feta: Dry Salted, Marinated and Brined
Mozzarella, Ricotta & Burrata
We’ll also have a creamery tour of the Haystack Mountain Cheese Creamery during lunch along with a nice sampling of their award-winning cheeses.

We’ll end this day with a tour of Briar Gate Farm, a small local dairy goat farm.

Cheddar: From Curds to Pressed & Aged
Affinage Tips, Tools & Techniques: Learn the methods and ingredients need to make Washed Rind cheeses, Blue cheeses, and Alpine (Swiss) cheeses, along with tips for aging including:
How to set up an aging facility (aka “cheese cave”)
Ripening boxes & mats, creating “micro climates” in your cheese cave
Seven ways to age you cheeses: natural rind, waxing, bandaging, vacuum sealing, rubbing, oiling, smoking.
We’ll end this day by taking a field trip to nearby Cheese Importers.
Attend one day of this bootcamp and you’ll receive a Bronze Level Certification; two days get Silver; and attend all three to receive your Gold!

Kenny Lee Young Live – 4pm-6pm
Not long after the release of his first album, entitled ‘All Sides of the Spectrum’, Kenny moved to Denver. His solo career really took a leap forward where he made his mark by opening up for Common at CSU and Brad Corrigan from Dispatch at DU. He also released an EP in 2007 called ‘No Time to Waste’ as well as three live albums.

Join us for this popular educational and tasty happy hour and Longmont’s St. Vrain Cidery and get your Halloween Evening off to a “grate” start! You’ll get to enjoy some delicious cheese and hard-cider pairings while watching homemade cheese being made by Kate Johnson of The Art of Cheese. During this interactive demonstration class, you’ll learn the basic art and science behind the cheesemaking process, the equipment and key ingredients needed and how to source the best milk for making cheese at home.

You’ll leave with some great recipes and the know-how to make a few easy cheeses yourself. We’ll also have Haystack cheeses available to purchase at a discounted price. And if you wear a costume, you’ll get a chance to win one of many fabulous prizes including a free cheesemaking class at the Haystack Mountain Creamery, a growler of St. Vrain cider, and more!
